Since April 2026, the Federal Ministry of Transport has been supporting the installation of private charging infrastructure in and around multi-unit residential buildings. A total of up to €500 million is available. Funding covers wallboxes and associated technical equipment, grid connections and necessary construction work.

Who can apply

  • Associations of apartment owners
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises and private landlords
  • Housing companies and property companies with large portfolios

The deadlines

Applications are generally open until 10 November 2026. Companies with large housing portfolios are subject to a competitive application process with an earlier deadline: applications close on 15 October 2026. Charging power must not exceed 22 kW per charge point.

Why this matters to the motor trade

A lack of charging options at home is considered one of the reasons why customers decide against an electric car. Equipping more parking spaces in residential developments with charging infrastructure could support demand for new and used electric cars.
