Tesla is initiating a recall of almost 4,000 Cybertrucks due to accelerator pedals that can become stuck, a situation revealed in recall filings possibly linked to a temporary solution used during manufacturing. Despite a general stagnation or decrease in electricity usage across the United States, areas surrounding electric vehicle (EV) battery plants have seen a noticeable increase in demand. This rise is further amplified by the construction of new EV factories, potentially leading to more pollution, a recent study suggests. Policies implemented by the Biden administration have significantly encouraged the expansion of EV and battery manufacturing facilities, predominantly located in the Southeast for workforce-related reasons. This shift has prompted local utilities to increasingly rely on natural gas, reducing their use of renewable energy sources.
Recent months have seen a surge in the expansion of U.S. fast-charging stations, even as sales and demand have stabilized. In the first three months alone, the number of fast-chargers increased by almost 8%, driven by the Biden administration’s NEVI program. There is now approximately one fast-charger for every 15 gas stations across the country.
