Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds Donates $250,000 Following Bet on Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 Championship Title
Reported by Tim Neuhaus on December 12, 2024, at 6:00 PM
In February of this year, Jeff Dodds participated in an intriguing interview with TNT Sports. During the discussion, the topic of Max Verstappen came up, and the Formula E CEO expressed his confidence that the Dutch driver would clinch the Formula 1 title again in 2024. Dodds was so certain of this outcome that he pledged $250,000 to charity if any other driver became the world champion. Dodds‘ prediction proved accurate, but the money will still be directed toward a charitable cause.
Today, Formula E shared a conversation on social media between Max Verstappen and Jeff Dodds. Dodds suggested in a video call with Verstappen, „I think we should use the money for a good cause. If you’re on board, we could split the amount. Half of the quarter-million could go to an organization that’s important to you, and I’ll do the same.“
Wings for Life and More than Equal Receive Support
Max Verstappen quickly made his decision: „The cause closest to my heart is Wings for Life, which would be a great choice.“ Wings for Life is a non-profit organization dedicated to spinal cord research, aiming to find a cure for paralysis. Jeff Dodds decided to donate his portion of the funds to More than Equal. More than Equal’s mission is to discover the first female Formula 1 World Champion and to take necessary steps to make motorsport more appealing for women.
The CEO of Formula E has announced a new collaboration with More than Equal. Max Verstappen supports Dodds‘ initiative, stating, „Promoting all kinds of motorsport and nurturing talent is fantastic.“ Formula E has already led the way by conducting a women’s test in Madrid. Additionally, with the introduction of Gen4 cars, power steering is expected to be implemented in 2026 to further lower the barriers to entry in Formula E.
First and foremost, the advancements of the Gen3 Evo need to be fully explored. The eleventh season of Formula E is set to continue on January 11 in Mexico. Verstappen is also excited, stating, „I’ll be following Formula E during my season break!“
